The Commander’s Corner:

I hope all of you had a Happy New Year! Please continue to remember our Troops and give them your support through the year.

I hope all of you can join us up stairs at the Post on February the 21st at 3:00pm for a very special tribute to our Chaplain, Carlton Hughes. Our District Representatives will be there and there will be some small refreshments to be enjoyed afterwards.

I want to personally thank our Social Quarters Staff for doing an outstanding job making the club a place we can all enjoy a meal and refreshment at. I want to also thank our members for coming out to the club and hope if you have not yet enjoyed the hospitality you will come out soon and see what you have been missing.

Please, all Legion members come to the meeting on the 9th! We need you to be able to conduct business.

Our Early Bird Thank You meal will be on March 20th, from 2pm to 5pm. Make sure you bring your dues card.

Don’t forget we have the WEB site back up and running again. Visit it at www.legionpost72.org A special thanks to Steve McLeod for his work getting it up and running.

House Chairman News:

We are taking steps to try and make the Post 72 Social Quarters a place you can come with your family and guests to enjoy a good Lunch or Dinner and some refreshments. If you have any ideas of how we can improve, please let us know.

Your House Committee members are: Paul Baker (Chairman), Andy Andrew, John Spearman, Bruce Maclean, Johnny Corbin, and Shell Ferguson. Please feel free to contact any of us with suggestions or comments to help improve your Social Quarters.

NEW: Due to your requests and the support we have been getting from our membership we will be adjusting the hours starting February 1st. We will now be open on Tuesdays from 11am to 8pm. We will also open at 11am on Saturday instead of noon. I would like to thank all of you for all the support you have given to the Social Quarters. Please continue and bring a friend.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Knight Revolution II SS 50 Cal Black Powder Rifle with Nikon Scope. The drawing will be on February 20th. You will not want to miss out on being the possible winner. Don’t hunt? Well you can always put it up for sale, as there are a large number of members that would like to have it.

For you members that play the HOGs. I’m sorry to say that we need to make it a new rule starting on February 1st that you will no longer be able to call into the club to see what the winning numbers are. I have noticed that during times the club has a number of members needing service the bartender needed to stop and answer the phone, pull out the book to give out winning numbers. This all takes time away from the members awaiting service. Please come in to find out if you have the winning numbers, and enjoy some refreshment as well.

Your help is needed: In the corner as you enter the Social Quarters to the right we are putting in a reserved POW/MIA chair and table in honor of POW and MIA. To do this I’m looking for contributions from our membership. The member’s who contribute will have their names posted in the corner on a certificate. The Plan is to have a chair with the MIA/POW cover on the back rest, a table with a place setting for one, and on the wall behind this, the round pacts from each of the 5 Armed Forces. We will also have the area roped off. If you would like to contribute please see me.

Sons of the Legion News:

I would like to thank everyone for coming out for all our breakfasts. This helps all of us to help others.

Our Post is coming back strong so keep supporting the Post.

The SAL needs to have more members to come in and also renew their memberships.

Come to the meetings so you will know what we are going and find out what you can do for the SAL and Post 72.

American Legion Riders News:

The American Legion Riders will continue hosting breakfast the 4th Sunday of each month to benefit the Legion Social Quarters funds. Thanks for your continued support! We look forward to seeing many more of you at future breakfasts. Come on out for good food and good times!

Plans are under way for the 2nd Annual Motorcycle & Car Show. Dubbed “Show What You Ride, Show What You Drive,” the event will take place at the Post on Saturday June 12, 2010, rain date Saturday, June 19. There will be lots more to see and do at this year’s show! Local band, Slider, will be performing throughout the afternoon, Papa DJ, Al Villareale, will host and play more music! There'll be a horseshoe tournament to help keep folks amused, and we're opening up space in the grass for a SWAP MEET and local business vendors! So, start gathering up your surplus car and bike parts, polish up your ride, and get ready to come out for a fun-filled day at the Post. More details will follow!

Pass the word to your friends that ride motorcycles to come out, meet us and hopefully become a member of one of the best ALR groups in the State.

More rides and Charity Bike Runs will be scheduled once the weather cooperates. Spring will soon be upon us (we hope)!

We want to extend a warm welcome to our newest ALR member, Tracy Potter.

Our next meeting is February 3rd at 7:00pm.

Barbara Truitt — Vice President

The tickets are $1.00 ea. or 6 for $5.00 and if you win you will sit in a new rocker/recliner during the game, and we will serve you from your new chair. That’s right! It is your new chair and you get to keep the new rocker/recliner for your very own. Drawing for the winner will be at 2pm on Feb. 7th. Good Luck! Very special thanks to Rankin’s Furniture for all their help.

Please bring a covered dish to share or desert and join in the fun. We hope that this will help our new members as well get to know other members. So if you are new to the Post please join us, we would love to meet you.

Due to the new hours on Tuesdays we will offer the Captain’s Platter which will consist of the Fish of the Day, Oysters, Small Crab Cake, Fried Shrimp, Hush Puppies, & Fries; all for only $7.00. We hope you will enjoy this new item to our menu.

There will be games for the kids with prizes and hot-dogs, then latter we will enjoy a BBQ Dinner. There will be music provided by DJ Dillon and an area for dancing. Please let us know how many children you will be bringing to help us with the number of prizes we will need to get. We want to make sure every child gets prizes. Remember this is a Family Day and we want the whole Family to enjoy this event. Also we will need some volunteers to help with the games.

GAMES at the Post: Come and have some fun with us. We are starting Darts Tournament on Thursday nights at 6:30pm starting on the 11th. It will be a blind draw double elimination and will run for 16 weeks, only $5 a week to play plus quarters for the board. Remember this, as all our games, are for FUN and everyone is more than welcome to join in.

On Wednesdays we have a Pool Tournament going on at 7pm. Please feel free to join in on the fun. Only $5.75 a night to play.

Fall & Summer will be here soon and we will start having weekly horse shoe tournaments. We will get in as many as we can before it gets too dark. This will be a weekly event and will not have a set time run on it. More information to come.
